Working from my apartment means I do get to listen to all the random noises of the day if I pay attention. Neighbors partying into the night, a poor dog left alone during the day, the chatter of the cleaning crew.
Doors locking or shutting, a cart full of groceries or stuff brought up from the parking lot. Kids, running or playing or squabbling.
Some noises don't come from the door. By far, the weirdest thing I've heard, and the most startling, was the sharp thud of a sparrowhawk smashing into the balcony netting trying to swoop in and catch my cat. The sight of a very confused hawk, wings spread, claws catching, hanging for a second or two on the net before flying away, is something you remember. This has happened a couple times. My cat is so far scared but unharmed.
